Very often, supervisors find themselves in a management role because they have excelled in their previous position as the "technician". They have had little or no training in how to communicate clearly and directly, a key quality in successful management. This workshop will address communication issues, styles of communication, and feed-back models. It will be interactive with participation in exercises and opportunities to practice skills.

Coaching is a process used by leaders to support employees in putting forth their best efforts and achieving specific results. Now recognized as more positive, effective and empowering than instruction or advice in business and organizational settings, coaching is a way of managing, a way of treating people, a way of thinking and a way of being. A coaching approach bolsters employee morale and performance. The benefits of learning coaching skills, as a supervisor, manager or business leader, include helping others move forward, deepening their understanding of themselves, increasing positive communications, fostering motivation and developing better problem solving skills.
This workshop includes an overview of what coaching is and is not, differentiating coaching from other managing strategies such as advising and or directing. It will also introduce some key and basic coaching skills including listening, asking powerful questions, goal setting, acknowledgement, requests, challenging, and accountability. You will have the opportunity to witness demonstrations of coaching as well as practice the coaching skills learned. You will leave with a new management "tool" that you can use immediately.
